Nothing quite like a hard day's work to make you appreciate the rise of the moon in the darkening cool night sky. The naked ladies are up again and the bud worms have
defeated me on yet another round of blooms on the petunias. As August burns out and the roses get pruned, we're excited to see the tomatoes ripening and first batch of pickle cucumbers come in off the warm vine. Hurray for home-grown food!
A client who recently moved here from Mexico City for a job at the Consulate downtown shared a 'secret' today about preparing peppers for us northern folks who can't handle the hot stuff: grill, broil or roast them as usual, and after you clean them up, soak them in salt water for about 5 minutes- leaves the flavor but takes away the flame! I can't wait to grill up some colorful peppers and try it out on my ulcer!
